Art spaces and events for deeper Twin Cities connections 

Our cities need spaces, where different people and opinions can meet and come out of their bubbles. They need spaces where one can face something unusual, but still, feel safe. Art spaces and art events are something that can have it all - diversity and cohesion, openness, and calling things by their names. Arts are bringing a lot of freedom in them which they are sharing with other people. When it comes to city partnerships, arts are something that can help us speak one language and exchange on controversial topics while working together. Cities can exchange their “secrets” and jointly raise their capacities. Art spaces, events, and urban festivals organized between the twin cities can be even more impactful getting a “stage” for the non-formal presentation of the city through arts. They can become a "showcase" for one city into the other one.

In our event-workshop you will learn,
> new theories about interconnections of urbanism and arts,
> cases on how art spaces can look like in different cities and exchange experience,

> insights on international urban festivals and their impact on the city,
> ideas why a city needs nightlife,
> overview about the critics on some of those approaches,
> how to use the potential of own city to do cultural projects, and also projects in partnership with other cities and countries.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their own experiences and views on how cultural spaces can be developed in their cities. You will also have the chance to develop new ideas together with other participants or apply them to your context.

Structure:
This course consists of two parts:
[A] 1x video input for individual preparation.
[B] 1x live session via Zoom.

Your coaches introduce you to the topic via video content. Each participant can view the content individually and work through it at their own pace. In the joint live sessions, we clarify your questions and discuss concepts and approaches.

Your coaches:
Alona Karavai Studied intercultural communication in Ukraine and organizational development in Germany. Has been working a lot with the production of visual art, music, and performative projects. Has been working on such big projects as IZOLYATSIA, Promprylad.Renovation and Urban Space 500. Co-founder of NGO Insha Osvita, co-founder of residency house in Carpathians Khata-Maysternya and the gallery Asortymentna kimnata, co-organizer of Porto Franko festival.

Anna Potyomkina Studied history of arts in Lviv (Ukraine) and Poznan (Poland). Co-founder and head of the board of the gallery and project space Asortymentna kimnata. Anna has been developing, organizing, and curating 6 artistic residencies. She's been working a lot on the intersection of visual arts and music and is experimenting with formats on how to bring art on the streets or to the night events like raves..

Note:
The workshop is open to participants from Belarus, Germany, Russia and Ukraine. The workshop itself is thus also a multilateral encounter with networking potentials.
