Chicago Sister Cities International Social Services Exchange Program

Short Description and Goal

Chicago Sister Cities International has built social services exchanges with various sister cities, including Birmingham, Casablanca, Durban, Hamburg, Osaka, Paris and Shanghai, to address these global concerns.These exchanges are overseen by CSCI’s Social Services Exchange Committee. In addition, each involved sister city has a social services exchange subcommittee to annually sustain and enrich their particular on-going exchange.

Detailed Description

Social services professionals worldwide are facing similar challenges due to common societal and economic upheavals. Issues such as child welfare, youth delinquency and an increasing elderly population have no national boundaries. Since 1996, Chicago Sister Cities International has built social services exchanges with various sister cities, including Birmingham, Casablanca, Durban, Hamburg, Osaka, Paris and Shanghai, to address these global concerns.These exchanges are overseen by CSCI’s Social Services Exchange Committee. In addition, each involved sister city has a social services exchange subcommittee to annually sustain and enrich their particular on-going exchange. The committee:

  • Initiates and assists the subcommittees to sustain on-going exchanges to address the interconnected social challenges faced by cities worldwide
  • Promotes best practices, enhanced cultural understandingsand increased professional networks
  • Bridges national boundaries to learn how to improve social services in our global community
